Bite Analysis
T-Scan and your Occlusion
T-scan is an advanced bite analysis technology that allows us to pick up any imbalances or interferences in your bite (also known as occlusion) that cannot be captured by traditional methods such as articulating paper. By doing this we can help prevent problems such as facial muscle pains, headaches, and migraines along with other symptoms associated with TMJ dysfunction. You simply bite down on a thin sensor (pictured below) and the software will display the timing it takes for your mouth to close as well as the pressure that you apply to each tooth. It also identifies any indication of muscular tension upon closing your jaw. It will show your bite from beginning to end and all that is happening in between. Not only does the T-scan help with alleviating TMJ Discomfort by balancing your bite but it can also be used to ensure that your fillings, crowns, and other dental restorations are not going to interfere with your bite causing future problems. This technology allows us to immediately visualize problem areas before you leave our office that day.
What is occlusion?
Occlusion refers to the way your teeth meet when you bite together. Optimally, all your teeth should meet one another at about the same time and with equal force. When this does not happen, your occlusion is unbalanced and you may experience the following:
Headaches/Migraines
Grinding
Neck, shoulder, and mid-back pain
Facial Pain
Stiffness or tension in the jaw
Sensitive teeth
Chewing fatigue
Damaged restorations
Fractured teeth
Receding gums or loose tooth
Greater tooth wear and sensitivity
