Comparing a person's teeth to example white teeth

Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening is a fantastic way to brighten your smile. While there are several types of over-the-counter treatments aiming to brighten your teeth, the active bleaching ingredients and concentration differ compared to our home whitening kit, which can be achieved in the comfort of your own home.

Tea, coffee, wine, cola, and many other dark-coloured liquids or food can cause your teeth to become discoloured.

We here at Friendly Smiles Dental offer an at-home whitening kit which allows you to achieve the results you want when you want. We will go through all instructions on how to use your kit, and the application may take up to 2 weeks. One of the great things about the home whitening system is if you ever feel like your smile is fading, you will always have your at-home trays to touch up your whiter smile.

Our clinic also offers professional in-chair whitening, which can take up to 2-3 hours. In-chair whitening is highly effective; however, it may leave your teeth very sensitive in some cases. At Friendly Smiles Dental we usually recommend the at-home whitening kit due to its effectiveness, convenience, and lower risk of tooth sensitivity.

How long do results last?

Depending on how you take care of your teeth and gums usually dictates how long home whitening treatment will last. We always recommend reducing the intake of staining beverages and foods whilst whitening your teeth. This helps to give you the best possible outcome for the longest duration. In addition, your oral hygiene and regular professional cleaning play a big role in maintaining a beautiful white smile.

Are there any side effects of teeth whitening?

Generally, there are two main side effects that are more frequently discussed, which are sensitivity and gum irritation. Our experienced dentists will discuss how we can avoid this and what can be done to help manage if you do get some sensitivity whilst whitening at home. Prior to any cosmetic treatments, our dentists will take time at the initial consultation to discuss any gum or teeth issues that may be present which can interfere with your home whitening.

In general, all-natural teeth with extrinsic staining (staining that is from food and drinks) will whiten over time with home whitening. Results do vary with each individual due to the quality and presentation of the enamel.
